Description
Fenbendazole is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic compound that has a long and well-
documented history of use in veterinary medicine. It is effective against a wide range of gastrointestinal
parasites across multiple animal species.
How it works:
Fenbendazole acts by binding to beta-tubulin in parasitic cells, disrupting microtubule formation.
This
blocks the parasite's
ability to absorb glucose, depleting the energy reserves needed to survive.
Fenbendazole contains a sulfoxide group, which results in lower oral bioavailability.
However, it is extensively metabolised
to oxfendazole and sulfone derivatives, which prolongs its antiparasitic activity.
Veterinary applications — parasites treated:
- Dogs & cats - Roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, Taenia tapeworms, pinworms
- Horses – Strongyles, pinworms, ascarids
- Cattle & sheep – Gastrointestinal nematodes, lungworms
